Dentures that stay in place

An implant-supported denture clicks onto a few dental implants, so it feels steadier when you talk, smile and eat.

An implant-supported denture, sometimes called an overdenture or snap-in denture, is a removable denture that attaches to dental implants placed in your jaw. Small attachments on the underside click onto the implants. The denture stays steady while you wear it, and you can still take it out to clean it. Many people choose this option after struggling with a loose lower denture or relying on denture adhesive every day.

Implants do more than hold a denture in place. When teeth are missing, the jawbone in that area tends to shrink over time. Implants put gentle pressure on the bone, which often helps slow that loss. A more stable denture can also make it easier to chew a wider range of foods and speak with confidence at work, at home and around family.

At Progressive Dental Office in Hialeah, Dr. Jonathan Guzman and Dr. Jovanny Guzman start with a careful exam and an honest conversation about your goals. We look at your bone, gums and any remaining teeth, explain your choices in plain language, and help you decide whether a snap-in denture, a fixed full-arch option or another approach fits your needs. There is no pressure to decide on the spot.

Is this right for you?

  • Your current denture slips, rubs or feels loose
  • You depend on adhesive to keep your denture in place
  • You avoid certain foods because chewing is hard
  • You are missing most or all teeth in one arch
  • You want more stability but prefer a denture you can remove
  • You're worried about bone loss after losing teeth
What to expect

How it works, step by step.

1

Consultation and planning

We examine your mouth, take X-rays and talk through your goals, health history and options before anything is decided.

2

Implant placement

Implants are placed in the jaw during a minor surgical visit. The number depends on your bone, your bite and the type of denture.

3

Healing time

Implants typically need a few months to bond with the bone. You can often wear a temporary or adjusted denture during this time.

4

Attach your denture

Your new or modified denture is fitted with attachments that click onto the implants. We check your bite and adjust for comfort.

Your comfort

It's normal to feel nervous about implant surgery. The area is fully numbed before we begin, and most patients describe pressure rather than sharp pain during placement. Some soreness and swelling in the days after is common and is usually managed with over-the-counter medicine and rest. We'll explain your numbing and comfort options at your consultation, and you can ask us to pause at any time.

Healing & aftercare

Most patients return to normal routines within a few days of implant placement, though healing below the gums takes longer. Stick to soft foods at first and follow your aftercare instructions. Once your denture is attached, take it out daily to clean it and the implant attachments. The small attachment parts wear over time and may need replacing. With good home care and regular checkups, implants can last many years.

Cost, insurance & financing

The cost of an implant-supported denture depends on how many implants you need, whether bone grafting is required, whether we can adapt your current denture and the type of attachments used. Dental insurance may cover part of the denture or related care, depending on your plan. We accept CareCredit and can talk through financing options. We give you the cost before we start, so there are no surprises.

FAQ

Common questions

It depends on your jaw, your bite and whether the denture is for the upper or lower arch. Lower dentures often use fewer implants, while upper dentures may need more for good support. After your exam and X-rays, we'll recommend a number that fits your situation and explain why.

Sometimes. If your existing denture fits well and is in good condition, it may be possible to add attachments so it clicks onto new implants. If it's worn or doesn't fit well, a new denture is usually the better choice. We'll look at it during your consultation.

An implant-supported denture snaps on and comes out for cleaning. An All-on-X bridge is fixed to the implants and is only removed by your dentist. Implant dentures often need fewer implants, while a fixed bridge feels more like natural teeth. We can help you compare both.

Most dentists recommend removing your denture at night to let your gums rest and to clean the denture and attachments. We'll give you a simple daily care routine and show you how to brush around the implants so the area stays healthy.

Age alone usually isn't the deciding factor. What matters more is your overall health, your bone and your ability to heal. Many older adults get implants. We'll review your medical history and medications and, if needed, talk with your doctor before planning treatment.
